I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in June 1969 and enrolled at Columbia Law School in September 1969. Following my first semester in Law School, I was notified to report for my physical at Fort Hamilton. I passed the physical and my II-S student deferment was changed to I-A.
In May 1970, when the lottery was instituted, my number was 280. That number was high enough that it was never reached by my local draft board in NC. In all my years that is the only time I have "won" the lottery.
