I was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity, and one of the guys that was a math major started a pool for the upcoming draft lottery. It cost five dollars to enter and the person with the lowest draft number would win the cash in the pool. Don went through the house and collected money from about everybody. He was quite excited about the pool.

On the night of the drawing, the chapter room was packed.  As I remember a number above 200 was considered to be safe, and of course a number below that was not good. As birthdays and draft numbers were matched, guys would say "Bingo" on their birthday and leave the room either relieved and happy, or quite disgusted. Anyway Don won his own pool with a draft number of 3.  I believe he joined the reserve and lived happily ever after.
