I graduated from The University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. I think my Lottery Number was 171. After graduation I worked for six months for Julius Garfinckel’s in Washington, D.C. as a clothing buyer trainee. On November 2, 1971 I received my "Greetings" letter from Uncle Sam. I joined the United States Coast Guard and served my country for four years in Florida – two and a half years in the Federal Building in Miami where the headquarters for the seventh Coast Guard district is located and one and a half years as Storekeeper on the USCG cutter Sweetgum based in Mayport. I am grateful that I was able to give four years of my life in service to my country. I am now Controller of Dent-A-Med Inc. owned by Harbert Management Company. The lessons that I learned in the military were valuable.
