In the summer of 1969 I went to NYU summer school to get enough credits to quickly become a teacher. I returned to school for the fall semester and the 1969 (first ever) lottery. The night of the lottery we were on our way to a basketball game and listening intently to the draft on the car radio. As low numbers were called 2 of the guys said stop the car and let us out. I was lucky and got #312. My other good luck was meeting my wife of now 37 years at summer school.
