In 1969, I was in my senior year at the University of Florida. I was in the Air Force ROTC program and would be going into active duty after graduation, so, at that point, my lottery number was not a concern. It’s hard to say if I would have gone the ROTC route if I hadn’t been facing the draft, but, as it turned out, the five years I spent in the Air Force were a great experience.
