My encounter with the draft was before I was to go N.C. State on a football scholarship in 1965. I had knee surgery in 1964 by Dr. Jack Huston in Columbus, Ga. which resulted in a a staple being placed in my knee.
I was called to Atlanta for the army physical exam and during that process I was referred to the orthopedic Dr. with the Atlanta Falcons. He realized I was a college bound football player and advised I could play college football but I was not suitable for the army. I was declared IV-F and played 4 years of college ball (including freshman team) and lettered all 3 years of varsity. God was with me then as he is now.
