I had a lottery number of 51, which helped me make my decision to pursue a conscientious objector status, which I was able to get. I ended up (after a false start) working at the Wake County Public Library, cataloging books.

The biggest impact of all this was that it put me back in this area, and it was during that time that the Red Clay Ramblers got started. Who knows what would have happened if I had gone into the military?
