I worked all the way through UGA with a II-S draft deferral. Then I missed a quarter in my sophomore-junior year due to not having enough money for tuition. Within 3 weeks I received a draft notice making me I-A and I was immediately sent to Atlanta for a physical.
Showed up at the physical and high blood pressure put me out of the draft with a I-Y classification. I walked out of there and ended up at Poncy’s Place at 666 Ponce de Leon, got drunk and missed the bus home. Draft lottery was shortly after that and my number was 268. Never thought about the military again.
