I can remember the dorm room #107 I was sitting in at Winona State College my Freshman year with 2 guys I went to high school with and my room mate from Wisconsin. We were all listening to the lottery numbers called for each of our birthdays. My high school friend had a number higher than me but preferred to get out ahead of the draft and joined the Marines. Later that same year I received my notice to report for my physical. We traveled by school bus from the county seat and back for an all day physical. Pretty much went back home anticipating an induction notice in my near future when the draft ended 3 days after my 20th birthday. I have few regrets in life. My Dad served in Africa and Italy in WWII and there is a large part of me that still feels I should have served my country.
