I was born September 14, 1946. I had a student deferment which I lost in 1969. By the time of the first draft lottery, I was classified I-A and had already passed my physical. At the time, the CIA was experimenting with the psychedelic drug LSD, and I had done some experiments of my own. I told the draft counselor of my drug use. I was then classified I-Y, which was later changed to IV-F, so they never came to pick me up. I would have gone into the service but I wasn’t about to question their decision. How can you be number ONE and not be called up? I never understood. This is the only lottery I ever won and never being picked was the prize. I was against the undeclared war but I will always respect those who served in the Vietnam conflict, and I will always pray for those who paid the ultimate price.
