Went to the Tarheel basketball game on the day of the lottery, and when we got back to the lodge the guys had been watching TV and had made a list of the lottery numbers and birthdates. I started at the beginning, and finally got to No. 339. Oh what a relief it was! I was super excited to have this high number, but some other frat brothers weren’t as lucky. We had one that was No. 4. He joined the reserves in Atlanta, and drove each month round trip for his drill duty. He made it once in 3 1/2 hours one-way. That was flying low back then! Since I really didn’t have to worry, I went about my life in a normal fashion. I suppose this wasn’t good, because I almost flunked out that year.
